It looks like Infiniti is jumping on the all-electric car bandwagon and is reportedly working on an electric performance model.
The new EV will be revealed as a concept at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show to give us an idea of what we can expect of the production model, which is slated to arrive sometime in 2019.
In an interview with , Infiniti’s Design boss Alfonsa Albaisa confirmed that the new standalone EV won’t be related to the Nissan Leaf or any other vehicle in the Infiniti lineup and will instead ride on its own unique platform. It will, however, be partly inspired by the Infiniti Prototype 9 that debuted at the 2017 Monterey Car Week & Concours d’Elegance.
It’s not quite clear what form the new Infinti EV will take — will it be a sports sedan akin to the Tesla Model S or a sports coupe like the Emerg-E concept of 2012 (pictured)? — but Infiniti boss Roland Krueger revealed to the English publication earlier that he’s already driven an early prototype, describing it as “very good”. Why wouldn’t he?

2019 Infiniti QX60 Earns Top Safety Rating
Infiniti’s biggest crossover is one of the safest vehicles on the road.
The 2019 Infiniti QX60 just earned not one but two prestigious safety awards in the United States. The luxury crossover has earned a 5-star overall vehicle safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s , along with a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The two awards recognized Infiniti’s dedication to vehicle safety.
The safety of the QX60 revolves around the innovative technology that comes standard in every model. The remarkable Rear Door Alert system which was first introduced in the 2018 QX60 help drivers remember things that might otherwise be forgotten in the backseat like pets, groceries, and other valuables. Not only does the QX60 offer drivers a lengthy list of standard safety features Infiniti also offers a laundry list of optional driver assistance features.
Some optional driver assistance features include Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Intervention, Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Backup Collision Intervention, and Intelligent Cruise Control with Full-Speed Range. You can also opt to equip your QX60 with Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection and an advanced Predictive Forward Collision Warning system.
According to the sales staff at , Infiniti offers the QX60 in two different trims, the base model Pure and the Luxe trim. Standard features on the QX60 Pure include LED foglights, power-adjustable heated front seats, simulated leather upholstery, a sunroof, keyless ignition and entry, heated side mirrors, a power liftgate, an 8-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker sound system, and tri-zone automatic climate control. The Luxe model builds upon the Pure model’s equipment list and adds a heated steering wheel, remote engine start, a 13-speaker Bose sound system, rear bumper protector, and roof rails.
The Luxe model also unlocks a wide range off optional packages which include Sensory, ProAssist, Theater, ProActive, Limited, and Essential. The Essential package like its name suggests comes with all of the essentials like navigation, leather seating, automatic wipers, a 360-degree parking camera, and rear parking sensors. Another reason why this package might be called essential is because you need it to unlock any of the other packages.
The luxurious Sensory package comes with unique quilted front and second-row seats that are also heated and ventilated, an additional moonroof over the second- and third-row seats, hands-free liftgate operation, a 15-speaker Bose surround-sound system, maple interior accents, and an air purification and scent system for the climate control system.
The Limited package adds a moody appearance to the QX60 which comes with dark chrome trim on the grille, unique rear fascia with gloss black paint, dark paint on the roof rails and crossbars, and Limited-specific 20-inch wheels. On the inside of the QX60 which is outfitted with the Limited package, you’ll find stone-colored leather seating surfaces with a quilted stitching pattern that features contrast stitching throughout and dark silver wood accents.
Buyers with children will love the Theater package, which adds a rear-seat entertainment system. The package comes with two 8-inch displays on the back of the driver’s and passenger’s seat along with a 110-volt household power outlet.
Infiniti Qs Inspiration Concept Shows Off Minimalist Design
A production version will eventually join Infiniti’s lineup.
Infiniti has revealed the Qs Inspiration Concept, which previews a future production vehicle that will be available with both EV and hybrid powertrains.
According to the company, the sedan will ride on a new flexible platform that accommodates electrified models and uses an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain.
Designers gave the Infiniti Qs Inspiration a blunt front fascia with tiny, jagged-edged headlights and small openings in place of a traditional open grille, as well as a very short trunk, possibly with a liftback configuration.
The interior is said to provide an “elevated driving position,” an odd fit considering sport sedans have traditionally focused on low-slung, highly bolstered seats.
Looking closer, the Infiniti Qs Inspiration looks a lot like the Q Inspiration concept from the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, which probably isn’t a coincidence. Both are sedans that preview Infiniti’s future design, featuring minimalist grilles and coupe-like overall aesthetic. The major difference appears to be that the latter has a more curvaceous rear end.
Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept Previews Infiniti’s EV Future
It introduces a new platform and a new design language inside and out.
Infiniti has revealed the QX Inspiration concept ahead of its world debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.
The stylish concept previews the brand’s plans for electrified, high-performance production vehicles, featuring the the same new design language as the Q Inspiration Concept and a spacious, lounge like interior.
“QX Inspiration is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand,” the Japanese premium marque said in a statement. “New technology has given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy — and the new vehicle communicates the serene strength at our core.”
The cabin was hand-crafted using traditional techniques and a choice of materials inspired by a subtle Japanese sensuality. Occupants are treated to new technology that follows the Japanese hospitality principle of omotenashi, creating a welcoming environment while assisting drivers and connecting occupants to the world around them.
The QX Inspiration Concept is underpinned by a brand new platform specifically engineered for electric vehicles, one that will be a centerpiece of the brand’s planned electrification push scheduled to begin in 2021.
In an earlier report, Infiniti President Roland Krueger suggested that the new line of electric vehicles could have a driving range of at least 311 miles (500 km).
