Honda is turning is 70 years old and will reportedly commemorate the grand occasion by launching a successor to the much-respected S2000.
According to , engineers at the Japanese automaker are hard at work on the new sports car. A knowledgeable sources specifically told them:
“A large complement of R&D staff from Japan are already in Ohio working on the car. They have more time now that the NSX is finished.”
The source also confirmed that the new convertible will be powered by a de-tuned version of the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder found under the hood of Europe’s Civic Type R but didn’t reveal how much the engine would produce. Even so, it’s not unreasonable to expect output of close to 300 horsepower.
Honda currently doesn’t have a rear-wheel drive platform that can be used for the new convertible, so it will likely build a new one from the ground up. The platform could eventually be used for a new Acura model, as well, possibly a production version of the Acura Precision concept that debuted at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
If the reports are true, the Honda S2000 successor will go on sale sometime in 2018 as a 2019 model. What do you hope to see?
2020 Chevy Corvette Convertible Gets Smart Folding Hardtop
It represents another first for the Corvette nameplate and can carry two sets of golf clubs like the coupe.
General Motors has unveiled the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible, which features the first power-folding retractable hardtop in the model’s history.
This is a one-of-a-kind Corvette Convertible because, instead of simply having its top chopped off like the previous models, it was engineered first and foremost for open-air driving.
In fact, the Corvette Stingray convertible is so close to the Corvette coupe in functionality and form that it has the same cargo capacity even with the hardtop stowed away.
Speaking of the hardtop, it is a power folding, two-piece setup inspired by fighter jets, with its two aerodynamic nacelles mimicking jet engine housings.
The roof can be operated at speeds up to 30 mph (48 km/h) and only takes 16 seconds to retract. Check it out in action…
A body-colored roof is standard, while Carbon Flash metallic-painted nacelles and roof are optional. A divider glass window in the middle of the vehicle can be powered-adjusted with the top up or down.
The 2020 Corvette Stingray Convertible is powered by the same 6.2L Small Block V-8 LT2 engine as the coupe. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, it produces 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque when equipped with the optional performance exhaust system.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible commands a $7,500 premium over the coupe. Production begins in the first quarter of 2020.
Not only does switching to a hardtop provide a quieter cabin and better protection against the elements, but it also gives the new Corvette Convertible and a cleaner look than previous soft top designs.
The only major downside is the elimination of the coupe’s transparent panel that showcases the mid-mounted engine.

2020 Fiat 124 Spider Gets Slick Scorpion Sting Graphics
The stylish package celebrates 70 years of the Abarth brand.
Fiat has announced a new “Scorpion Sting” appearance group for the 2020 Fiat 124 Spider, and it looks slick.
For $395, you essentially get an Abarth scorpion hood decal and side stripes in Rosso red.
The Rosso red scorpion hood decal celebrates the 70th anniversary of Abarth, while the Abarth scorpion badge pays tribute to founder Karl Abarth, whose astrological sign was Scorpio.
For those looking for an even more customized look, there is also an Abarth Veleno Appearance Group that adds red exterior mirror caps, red lower fascia lip and red front tow hook, Abarth-branded carpeted floor mats, and a bright foot rest for $495.
In related news, Fiat has decided to discontinue the 500, as well as its associated Abarth model, in the United States. That means the 124 Spider Abarth is now the only vehicle in Fiat’s lineup to wear the Abarth badge.
2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Arrives As The All-Weather Sports Car
They bring improved all-wheel-drive technology to the base 911.
Porsche used the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show to take the wraps off the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4 Cabriolet.
As the all-wheel drive variant of the base 911 Carrera, the Carrera 4 is a sports car better suited for driving in all weathers. Its all-wheel-drive system consists of a liquid-cooled clutch and differential unit for channeling power to the front axle, while new components improve adjustment accuracy for routing power where it’s most necessary.
The improved system is paired with the latest Porsche Traction Management system, enhancing performance on snow, wet roads and on dry pavement.
Like the standard 911 Carrera, the Carrera 4 is powered by a 3.0L, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that produces 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft. of torque. Mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, it allows the 911 Carrera 4 coupe to reach 60 mph in 4.0 seconds (3.8 seconds when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package), while the 911 Carrera 4 cabriolet gets to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds (4.0 seconds with the Sport Chrono package).
Pricing for the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 starts at $106,050 for the coupe and at $118,850 for the Cabriolet, both including destination fees.
