Bugatti Chiron Has 1,500-hp V16, 290 MPH Top Speed?

A wealthy car collector who was lucky enough to be given an early preview of the Bugatti Chiron has provided Czech car magazine ProDriver with some official performance details, revealing that the French hypercar packs a 1,500-horsepower V16 powerplant and has a top speed of 290 mph (467 km/h).

Despite being powered by the Veyron’s 16-cylinder engine, which has been significantly updated in this application, the Chiron produces 300-hp more than its predecessor and a whopping 1,100 lb-ft. of torque, enough power to make anyone’s head spin.

Bugatti’s engineers will replace the V16 with a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain about halfway through the car’s production run.

That unbelievable output, combined with a lighter body courtesy of the extensive use of carbon fiber and other lightweight materials, allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a ridiculous, neck-breaking 2.2 seconds before reaching the aforementioned 290 mph top speed.

If the is accurate, the Chiron will be the fastest car in the world when it hits road and track.

Only 500 units of the Bugatti Chiron will be built over a five-year period, 130 of which have already been spoken for by customers all over the world. How much did they spend, you ask? Approximately €2 million, which converts to approximately $2.2 million (more than your house).

Bugatti Centodieci Is The Most Powerful Bugatti Yet, Costs Nearly $9M

The latest special edition Bugatti channels early ’90s supercar swag, but at the cost of almost $9 million.

Bugatti used the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours dElegance to unveil the Centodieci, an all-white hypercar that complements the $12.5 million, jet-black La Voiture Noire. The model celebrates the company’s 110th birthday.

The Centodieci — Italian for the number 110 in for you monolinguals — not only celebrates the 110 years since the company’s founding, but it’s also pays tribute to its iconic EB110 supercar of the 1990s. Bugatti will limit production to just 10 units, with each costing €8 million ($8.9 million at current rates) VAT.

The Centodieci is unmistakably a modern Bugatti in appearance, but the angular design touches is a marked departure from the scooped, sculpted bodies of the Veyron and Chiron. The EB110’s influence is very visible, such as the much smaller Bugatti horseshoe grille, the re-positioning of the logo from the grille to the hood, the three-section air intakes, and the replacement of the C-shaped B pillar with five diamond-shaped air inlets, and the glass cover for the engine bay.

The two-dimensional rear end design with eight taillight elements, stacked exhaust pipes, and a performance diffuser are also a nod to the EB110.

Power is provided by Bugatti’s W16 engine, tuned to produce 1,600 horsepower (1,176 kilowatts) and thrusting the Centodieci from 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 2.4 seconds, 0-200 kph (0-124 mph) in 6.1 seconds, and 0-300 kph (0-186 mph) in 13.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 380 kph (236 mph).

The Bugatti Centodieci shown at Pebble Beach wore white, a contrast to the sinister La Voiture Noire unveiled in March, but customers can get their Centodieci in any color they want.

Is Bugatti Working On More Hardcore Chiron Than The Divo?

Because the Divo just isn’t hardcore enough…

Despite sharing most of its parts with the Chiron, the that, unlike the Chiron, can actually handle well on a race track. Well, Bugatti thinks it can do better than the Divo.

The reportedly received word from sources familiar with the matter that the companyis planning an even more extreme Chiron, one possibly wearing the ‘Super Sport’ badge. Sketches of the car were supposedly shown to VIP customers at the Divo’s unveiling.

Described as “a beauty of speed” and a “ground-to-ground Missile”, the super duper Chiron is claimed to be powered by the same 8.0L quad-turbo W16 engine found under the hood of both the Chiron and Divo, but its output will pass 1,500 horsepower mark.

It will be produced in extremely limited numbers — 20 to 40 units are planned — much like the Divo.

Bugatti hasn’t confirmed anything, but if the report is accurate, we’ll see the more hardcore Chiron at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

A Bugatti SUV Seems More Likely By The Day

Bugatti seems to really want an SUV.

Less than two months after hinting at the possibility of its first-ever SUV, Bugatti hits the news wave with yet more hints.

At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, company CEO Stephan Winkelmann told that his team is discussing a range of chassis and engine variants and an SUV that fits with the brand’s billionaire target audience. He also alluded to the fact that its trademark W-16 engine won’t be around forever.

Bugatti is not impervious to industry trends and will likely introduce a hybrid powertrain at some point, one that could potentiality be used by the new SUV.

“The brand is ready for more,” Winkelmann said. While there will be no expansion to the lineup if it is not economically viable, is there really anything hotter on the market than SUVs and crossovers?

An SUV with Bugatti’s brand image and engineering pedigree surely cannot fail, especially when considering it will be targeted at ridiculously wealthy individuals with a bottomless pit of money.
