The new Yukon and the extended Yukon XL feature a more tasteful front fascia than their Chevy sibling. The headlight design, although simpler, does a good job at helping maintain overall design cohesiveness, as does the restyled chrome-accented grille (especially on the Denali model).
Although you probably can’t tell at first glance, the new sheetmetal is a tad bit bolder than the old one, featuring such things as an aluminum hood, a laminated windshield and a standard spoiler.
The interior has taken a huge leap over the previous one, thanks to the use of authentic materials and the availability of a long list of premium infotainment choices. The instrument panel, center console and door panels are all soft-touch, while ambient lighting in functional areas help brighten the mood at night. All models come standard with a Bose sound system, seats with dual-firmness foam and an ambient air vent. Denali models utilize active noise cancellation technology to make the interior even quieter than it already is.
For the first time ever, the second- and third-row seats fold flat, enhancing cargo capability and convenience.
Under the hood of the the Yukon and Yukon XL is a direct-injected, 5.3L V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque. Denali models come standard with a more powerful 6.2L engine rated at 420-horsepower and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm). Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Other mechanical enhancements include a new electric power steering system, a revised 9.5-inch rear axle and standard automatic locking rear differential, a wider track for a more planted feel, and a new four-wheel-disc brake system that offer up to double the service life. Denali models also get GM’s third-generation magnetic ride control.

GM Is Working On Electric Truck To Rival Ford, Rivian And Tesla
The pickup truck segment is gearing up to enter the electric era, and GM wants to be at the forefront.
Not to be outdone by cross-town rival Ford, which intends to build an electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck, General Motors has announced that it too has plans for a full-size electric pickup.
GM CEO Mary Barra broke the news on a conference call with investors but fell short of providing any other details, such as a time frame.
“GM has an industry-leading truck franchise and industry-leading electrification capabilities. I assure you we will not cede our leadership on either front,” Barra stated. “We intend to create an all-electric future that includes a complete range of EVs — including full-size pickups.
Barra’s announcement follows shortly after GM ended talks with up-start electric vehicle maker Rivian, which chose instead to forge a partnership with Ford. Rivian will build at least one electric vehicle for the Dearborn automaker as part of their $500 million agreement.
Not only will GM’s electric truck compete with the electric F-150, but it must also contend with the Rivian R1T and Tesla’s electric truck, both of which could arrive in a few years.
2019 GMC Sierra CarbonPro Edition Arrives With Carbon Fiber Bed
You can now have your GMC pickup truck with a carbon fiber bed.
GMC has announced the GMC Sierra CarbonPro Edition, which features a new carbon fiber pickup bed that is dent, scratch and rust resistant.
Available on the Sierra Denali 1500 and the Sierra AT4 1500 models, the carbon fiber CarbonPro box is said to make the Sierra lighter, stronger, and more durable. It weighs about 60 pounds (25 percent) less than a conventional steel box and gives the truck one extra cubic foot of cargo capacity, allowing buyers to haul at least 59 pounds more.
“CarbonProis made of the same raw material found in seven-figure super cars and even aerospace applications,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global GMC. “Coupled with offering the world’s first six-function MultiPro tailgate, the 2019 Sierra packs a one-two hauling punch for whatever the situation demands.”
Its grained surface also negates the need for bed liners, and GMC carved three indentations into the box that makes it easier to load dirt bikes and ATVs. Numerous tie-down hooks integrated into the bed side help secure just about anything.
To ensure that the new carbon fiber bed is just as strong as a steel bed, engineers dropped cinder blocks, 1800-pound loads of gravel and 450-pound water-filled steel drums from varying heights into it.
2020 GMC Acadia Refresh Brings Rugged AT4 Model, New Turbo Engine
The updates include a more aggressive look, a new turbo four, and a rugged new AT4 model.
GMC has given the Acadia a mid-cycle refresh that brings a revised exterior design, interior and tech enhancements, a new engine option, and an off-road-focused AT4 model.
On the outside, the 2020 GMC Acadia features a bolder grill flanked by rectangular headlights with C-shaped LED inserts, new-look rear lights and nicer 18- and 20-inch wheel designs that brings the overall design in line with GMC’s recent design language.
The interior has been enhanced by an electronic shifter that frees up real estate on the center console for more storage space and an updated infotainment system that the company says is “more intelligent and more intuitive” thanks to a higher-resolution eight-inch touchscreen, an easier to use interface, and improved voice recognition. Wireless charging for your phone is available, as are a head-up display system, a new HD rear camera, and a Rear Camera Mirror that replaces the rear-view mirror with a screen.
A new turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine joins the lineup for the 2020 model year and comes standard on the Acadia SLT and Denali models. Mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, it produces 230 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm and uses Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) to maximize fuel-efficiency.
The 2.5L four-cylinder and 310-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 engines carry over from the 2019 model, with the latter now shifting through the same nine-speed automatic as the new turbo four instead of a six-speed automatic.
In response to the growing demand for rugged vehicles, GMC has expanded the Acadia lineup with a new AT4 model aimed at adventurous buyers. Like the Sierra AT4, the Acadia AT4 looks the part with a trim-specific grille with black chrome accents, plastic body cladding, 17-inch alloy wheels (20-inch alloys are optional), and a sporty dark interior with contrasting accents.
Lastly, the Acadia has received some suspension improvements that help with ride and handling. Front-wheel drive is still standard, while all-wheel drive is optional, though the Acadia AT4 is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive and the V6.
