Cadillac Approves Production of Large Flagship Sedan

Published

on

Cadillac Ciel Concept

Automotive News is reporting that Cadillac has approved the production of a large sedan that will become its flagship model. Given all the reports we’ve documented regarding the prospective flagship, this is not a surprise. The large sedan will apparently go up against the likes of the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8.

For those wondering, the recently launched Cadillac XTS executive sedan, which is presumably the company’s answer to aforementioned German vehicles, is only a filler, a temporarily model until a proper flagship sedan, which will be based on the brand’s new rear-wheel-drive Omega platform, shows up. This is something we’ve reported on already.

What we weren’t too sure about was whether said flagship would be stylistically inspired by the stunning Cadillac Ciel Concept. According to sources, it will. How much so? We’ll have to wait and see.

Under the hood of sedan will likely be a 3.6 liter V6 and a V8 engine, both mated to an 8 speed transmission. An all-wheel-drive setup will be optional.

Is Cadillac Making V-Series Performance SUVs?

Cadillac XT4 Grille logo

Cadillac’s SUVs might be getting the V-series treatment, but which one(s)?

Cadillac has plans to expand its lineup of V performance vehicles beyond the CT4-V and CT5-V, according to a new report.

At the press drive event for the new XT6 large crossover, Cadillac boss Steve Carlisle hinted to that the company is considering giving its SUVs some extra oomph!

He is certainly comfortable with the idea, but conceded that they could never replace true sports sedans: “You’re dealing with higher [centers of gravity], weight distributions, everything like that.”

There have been rumors that the next-generation Escalade could arrive with the 6.2L supercharged LT4 V8 that powers the Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Corvette Z06. If true, a 650-hp Escalade will certainly turn some heads.

Other rumors claim a Cadillac is working on a high-performance XT4 crossover, one possibly wearing the V badge. Performance-tuned versions of the XT5 and XT6 seem out of the question, however.

It brings a new engine, updated interior tech, and some very subtle styling updates.

Cadillac has given its popular XT5 crossover several updates for the 2020 model year, most notable of which is a new turbocharged engine.
